Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School
Annual Athletic Meet celebrated at Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School B.R.S Nagar celebrated its Annual Sports Day on 9th Dec., 2011 in frolicsome atmosphere. A festive spirit was created with a well decorated playground and a prayer dance to invoke the blessings of almighty God. The chief guest for the opening ceremony was Mr. Sajjan Singh Cheema, ADCP traffic Police who was accorded a warm welcome by the Director of the school Rev. Father John , worthy Principal Rev. Sr. Christo, the sports department and the school band followed by the Guard of Honour. Mr. Cheema unfurled the flag and the function began with the march past of all the participants of four Houses.

The Oath was taken by the sports captain on behalf of the entire School and then Mr. Cheema declared the Sports Meet open. The athletic events like ball race for the tiny tots, 100m, 200m, and relay race entertained the onlookers.

The function came to an end with the prize distribution. The Chief Guest for the closing ceremony was Mr. Manjinder Singh Dhillon, SHO Sarabha Nagar, who expressed his appreciation of the immense talents of the students, who performed with great expertise.

The award for the best Athlete Boy was given to Akshay Kaura and best Athlete girl was given to Deepinder Kaur Sekhon for their excellent performance in various events of sports. Gandhi House was declared the best House. Rev. Father John and Rev. Sr. Christo appreciated the hard work of the students for their outstanding performance in athletics. The students gave a wonderful Bhangra performance followed by the vote of thanks. The Chief Guest Mr. Dhillon, declared the sports Meet 2011 closed and the function came to an end with the National Anthem.

EK KADAM----Step towards Heaven Musical Bonanza by Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School, BRS Nagar, celebrated its Annual Cultural Fiesta 2011-EK KADAM-Step Towards Heaven on 1st December, 2011. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Mr.Malwinder Singh Jaggi, Additional Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana. The Director of the School, Rev. Father John, Honourable Principal, Rev. Sr. Christo, the staff and students accorded the esteemed chief guest a very warm welcome.

The function commenced with a meticulous performance of prayer dance to invoke the blessings of Almighty God followed by the welcome speech. The students presented the Annual Report for the year 2010-11.

Then began the Bonanza of the evening Musical Theatre “EK KADAM-----Step towards Heaven”. The audience was spell bound while looking at the various aspects of the social evils displayed on the stage by the students. The event was a small effort in awakening the young minds to various impediments like Female Foeticide, Child Labour, Corruption, Terrorism etc. in our prosperity and progress. In short, it was a magnanimous effort of the students to reveal their sentiments to awaken the society and take a step forward to spread peace and universal brotherhood.

In his address to the august gathering, the Chief Guest encouraged the students with his words of wisdom and blessings and asked them to tread on the path of truth and become a true Indian. He congratulated the Sacred Heart Fraternity for selecting the most appropriate theme for the function.

The Chief Guest along with the other dignitaries also released the School Magazine – Expressions 2011.The function concluded with scintillating Bhangra Performance followed by the School Anthem.

Conciencia de Naturaleza
The Annual function of Primary and Kindergarten at Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School, BRS Nagar, celebrated its Annual Day ‘Conciencia de Naturaleza’ on 2nd December, 2011. It was a visual treat for the audience. Rev. Fr. Jose Puthenpura, Chairman of Education Board, Diocese of Jalandhar, was the Chief Guest on this occasion.

The programme commenced with the Prayer song seeking the blessings of Almighty. It was an eye opening musical event. The children showcased their talent through various acts. Students performing on the scintillating rhythm of music mesmerized one and all.

They conveyed the message of strengthening the bond between human beings and nature. The children tried to show that they need a future where they can have pure water, fresh air, nutritious food and disease free health.

The students turned into different characters and the audience applauded their efforts to make this earth a better place to live in. Indeed it was an enlightening experience for all.

Finale of Diocesan Inter School Literary Competitions
Diocesan Inter School Literary Competitions concluded at the Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School, B.R.S Nagar, with the Prize Distribution Ceremony on 21st October, 2011. To  hone the literary Skills of students the Diocese had organized a number of activities in different convent schools from 6th September – 21st October , 2011 .

Prof. Kulbir Singh Sandhu, Director, Extension Education and Senior Scientist Veterinary Disease Investigation at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University   was the Chief Guest at the occasion. The Directors, Principals, Rev. Fathers, Rev. Sisters and the winners of the different contests graced the occasion with their presence.

Students of 12 schools showcased their writing skills in Essay Writing competition held at Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School, Khanna on 6th Sept, 2011, which was followed by their proficiency in speaking through a Debate and Extempore Contest held at Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School, Jamalpur on 18th Oct, 2011 and Sacred Heart Convent. School, Sahnewal on 19th Oct, 2011 respectively.

The quizzing potential of the students was exhibited in the Quiz Contest – ‘Brain Strain’ held on 20th Oct, 2011 for Seniors and Juniors at Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School B.R.S Nagar and Sacred Heart Convent School, Samrala respectively.

The literary activities concluded with Monologue Competition on 21st Oct, 2011 At Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School, B.R.S Nagar followed by the prize distribution function. The Chief Guest Prof. Kulbir Singh Sandhu motivated the students through his words of wisdom and congratulated the Diocese for organizing such competitions to improve the overall personality of students.

Among the 12 participating schools, the Champions trophy has been won by SACRED HEART SEN. SEC. SCHOOL, B.R.S. NAGAR, LUDHIANA. and the runners up trophy was bagged by SACRED HEART CONVENT SCHOOL, SAMRALA.

Rev. Father John, the Director of the school and Rev. Sr. Christo, the honourable Principal felicitated the winners and expressed their gratitude to all the participants of the schools for the success of the event.

           ‘SACRED HEART INTER SCHOOL SPORTS MEET’
A grand ceremony marked the opening of ‘SACRED HEART INTER SCHOOL SPORTS MEET’ at Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School, B.R.S. Nagar on 17th October, 2011. Commanding Officer Chotta Ram Jat with his better half, Mrs. Savita, presided over the function and declared the meet open. The honourable Principals and Directors of the various Sacred Heart institutions under the patronage of Jalandhar Diocese also graced the occasion.

The Chief guest was accorded a formal Guard of Honour and  the sacred torch was lit by the sports queen of the school Steffi Kala. A soulful prayer song, rhythmic march past, high spirited aerobics and foot tapping bhangra added colour and vibrance to the occasion. Almost 10 schools under the Diocese of Jalandhar, Ludhiana Zone(St. Francis School, Bhammian; St. Joseph’s Convent School, Phillaur; Sacred Heart Convent School, Bhattian; Sacred Heart Higher Sec. Convent School, Jamalpur; Sacred Heart Convent School, Samrala; Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School, Khanna; Sacred Heart Convent School, Sahnewal; Sacred Heart Convent Sen. Sec. School, Jagraon; Sacred Heart Convent School,Raikot and Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School, B.R.S. Nagar) are the proud participants of this prestigious event.

These schools will compete for the winner’s Trophy in Football, Kho-Kho, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Cricket and Volleyball. The event will come to a close in the first week of November.

ADIEU, WE WISH YOU WELL
It was with both sadness and a warm heart that Sacred Heart bid adieu to one of its teachers on 10th Oct,2011.  Mrs. Ravinder Dara worked for a decade in the school. Her diligence, sense of duty and devotion to the school will be remembered by all. A farewell party was thrown in her honour. She and husband, Mr. Dara,  were welcomed by the K.G. teachers.

Rev. Sr. Christo appreciated her work and her special love for the nursery students. School management acknowledged her dedicated services by presenting to her a momento, a token of love from the teachers. The teachers and the management wished her the best in her future endeavours.

Teacher’s Day Celebrations on 5th sep, 2011

Teacher’s Day was celebrated on the school campus on 5th September. All the students actively participated with full zeal and enthusiasm in order to express their love and respect for their beloved teachers. Students gave flowers, greeting cards and wrote colourful messages on them.

Director Father John graced the occasion and his message of the day motivated all the teachers. Principal Rev. Sr. Christo congratulated all the teachers for their loyalty and dedication towards their work and institution. Father Jose was the special Guest of Honour. Various games were arranged by the students for all the teachers and prizes were distributed to the winners.

Orientation Programme for Teachers from 26th Aug – 30th Aug, 2011

An orientation programme was organized by the school for the teachers on 26th-27th and 29th -30th August, 2011. This orientation was conducted separately for two groups of teachers and was spread over two days for each group. The resource person for this programme was Rev. Dr. Joe Arimpoor. Rev. Father Joe is a Don Bosco priest and is the founder of DB Animation and Research Kendra at New Delhi.

He is the author of three books and is a seasoned trainer for youth, educators as well as parents. A versatile personality Rev. Father Joe conducted the reorientation program on ‘Challenges in Education Today’ .He enlightened and refreshed the minds of the teachers with motivational thoughts and gave them courage to proceed further and strive for excellence.
Father Joe stressed on the mantra ‘Work hard and follow your heart to be successful’. His idea of total evaluation of teacher was truly appreciated by the teachers.

Independence Day Celebrations on 12th Aug,2011

65th year of Independence of our nation was celebrated by the Sacred Heartians very enthusiastically. On this joyous occasion the director, Rev. Father John, the Principal, Rev. Sister Christo, along with the faculty members and the students prayed for peace, progress and prosperity of the nation.

To commemorate the birth of the world’s biggest democracy, the school organized different activities. An inter-house Choreography competition was held for the students of classes VIII – XII. The participants paid homage and expressed gratitude to the millions of men and women, who participated in the freedom movement through their heart-rendering performances.

The young patriotic hearts in the primary and kindergarten sections rejoiced the triumph of hundreds and thousands of martyred souls while singing the patriotic songs and spreading the message of love and peace. The message conveyed by all was the same:
Join hand in hand, brave Indians all!
By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall.

Pride of Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School B.R.S.Nagar - Aatish Goyal
As the result of IIT JEE was declared during the last week, a totally unexpected  result was brought out by the young lads of Ludhiana. Aatish Goyal of Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School  B. R. S. Nagar, Ludhiana bagged an All India Rank of 584 getting the second position in Ludhiana District. He owes his success to hard work , tenacity and determination.

He was focused about cracking the JEE entrance exam ever since he took up Science stream in 11th grade. He used to put in 5-6 hours of self study daily, in addition to his regular school schedule. Music was a stress buster for him. The school, parents and his teachers are very proud of his success.

Rev. Sister Christo, the Principal showered her blessings on him and wished him luck for all his future endeavors. He is all set to leave for Bombay IIT for Mechanical Engineering.

Election of New School Cabinet
Investiture Ceremony - the most eagerly awaited event and a traditional feature of Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School, B.R.S Nagar, was organized on 27th of April. The function began by invoking the blessings of Almighty lord through a prayer and hymn by the school choir. Then the previous cabinet members were invited on the stage to hand over their responsibilities to the newly elected office bearers by giving away the sashes and the candles which are symbolic of carrying forward the school motto - Learn and Enlighten.

It was followed by the badging ceremony by Rev. Father John, the director of the school, and Rev. Sister Christo, the school Principal, a further sign of responsibilities. Rev. Sister Christo led the School and House Cabinet in the solemn Oath taking ceremony in which they took a pledge to dispense their duties to the best of their abilities. Rev Father John, the Director of the school, congratulated the newly elected office bearers. He also inspired and motivated them with his generous words of wisdom, wishing them to perform their duties, in accordance to the laws of the school.

In the end, the newly appointed Head Boy, Head Girl and Sports Captain expressed their gratitude towards staff, management and fellow students for placing great trust in them and assured that they would carry out their duties faithfully. The solemn ceremony concluded with singing of School Anthem.

Interclass tournament on Cricket
To boost up the sportsmanship spirit among the students an interclass tournament was organized for class V from 26th April to 30th April’ 2011 in Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School B.R.S. Nagar, Ludhiana. The format of cricket was of 10 overs. Childern participated with great zeal, enthusiasm and great vigour. The cheer Leaders clapped and danced at each short. Each section of class V played the match in round robin league. The Final match was between class VA and VB.

The winner of the tournament was class VB and VA was First Runner’s up and VD was the Second Runner’s up. The Principal of the School Sr. Christo gave away the prizes to the winners, she in her motivating words congratulated all the participants and inspired the others to boost their morale and to uplift the spirit of sportsmanship.

Easter Day Celebration in the School Campus
Easter – the Life Eternal was celebrated in the confines of the Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School  , B.R.S. Nagar on 19th April , 2011. Easter – a festival to rejoice the return of Jesus and the triumph over death to brighten the darkness of our minds was depicted in the form of various activities. A speech regarding this event was given which enlightened the minds of little scholars of Primary wing.

A beautiful presentation showing the resurrection and the return of new hopes was shown on smart class boards. Children very enthusiastically participated in the Easter egg decoration for classes II and III and Easter basket making competition for classes IV and V. They were very authentically decorated and prizes were given for the best entries. On this occasion , the Principal of the school , Rev. Sister Christo gave the message to spread love, cheer and good will with kindness and generosity.

Earth Day was celebrated on 20th April, 2011 in Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School B.R.S Nagar, Ludhiana with great zeal and enthusiasm. The celebration incepted with presentation on Smart Class highlighting the fact that if we take care of the small things, the big things will fall into place.

A speech was delivered which helped the students to study how little changes in environment can have big repercussions. After that students showcased their creative talent in Poster making, Banner making and Slogan writing Competitions.

In order to bring home the significance of “Plant Trees, Plant Life”, Rev. Father John, the Director , Rev. Sr. Cristo, the Principal, Rev. Sr. Mary, staff and the students of various classes planted saplings for a healthy environment. Indeed this celebration provided them an inspiring educational opportunity which will help them foster a new understanding and respect for the planet.

Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana organized a three days Orientation Programme for the parents of the newly admitted nursery students with the objective of sensitizing them about the role that they can play in their child’s education.

The school principal, Rev. Sr. Christo, motivated the parents to play a proactive role in the holistic development of their child by spending special time interacting with the child, providing a harmonious and loving family environment and inculcating good moral values by being a good role model. She also requested them to have realistic expectations while helping their children develop their own vision of life. Mrs. Indu Sharma, the Kindergarten Coordinator, sensitized the parents about the rules and regulations of the school and safety precautions which will help the child to adjust to his new environment.

Dr Kulpreet Dhillon, the School Psychologist, shared some research based strategies with the parents to make the first few days at school less stressful. Sharing the recommendations of American Academy of Pediatrics about the role of early intervention, she motivated the parents to stimulate the children’s brain by regularly reading to them. She also advocated the role of a predictable and structured routine consisting of adequate time for play, sleep, and consistent disciplining in improving a child’s behaviour and inculcating good habits. Mr. Manpreet Singh, lecturer of physical education, also gave a talk on the role of nutrition in the child’s physical and mental development.

The programme ended with an interactive session in which the Coordinator and class teachers clarified the doubts of the parents.

Fare Thee Well

The staff of Sacred Heart B.R.S Nagar bid adieu to two of the much loved and much respected employees, Mrs. Gupta and Mrs. Malik on Saturday the 2nd of April. Mrs.  Gupta and Mrs. Malik completed their term of service and enjoyed an association of 25 years and 23 years with the school respectively. Completely dedicated and versatile they have been a source of inspiration to all through the years.

A farewell party was thrown in their honour where they received a warm send off with flowers and songs and their efforts appreciated by the Principal Sr. Christo, Director Father John and members of staff.

Beginning of New Academic Session 2011 – 2012


Sacred Heart Sen. Sec. School saw the commencement of the new session 2011-12 on the bright sunny morning of 31st March. The day started with a common Assembly, Lamp was lit as per the traditions by the Principal Rev. Sr. Christo and the Director Father John.

Prayers were offered and hymns sung to invoke God’s blessings upon each and every member of the Sacred Heart Family. Sr. Christo and Father John in their message they called upon the students to inculcate good moral values, a sincere attitude towards academics and zeal for games. There after the proceedings were as per the school time table.
